Lachenalia aloides aurea in a hanging basket.

Lachenalia aloides aurea is an easy variety to grow. This picture shows a hanging basket planted with bulbs. These are grown by planting with dormant bulbs in late summer facing the bulbs downward in the moss liner of the basket and filling with mix as each row of bulbs is planted.

When the basket is full, water it well then place a board over the top and carefully invert the whole basket so that it is sitting upside down on the board. Keep moist until the bulbs have sprouted up out of the bottom of the basket, and when the shoots are about 3cm (an inch) long the basket may be turned right way up and hung as per normal in a sunny place. The shoots will now grow outward and upward and the top of the basket may be planted as per normal too. When flowerring time comes it will be a ball of flower as shown
