Clematis Viticella forms

This group all need hard pruning late winter (xC).
They are great for enhancing roses and any other shrub. Some are good with conifers and most look good scrambling through the taller perennials (herbaceous). They are all summer and autumn flowering. Viticellas are extremely cold hardy and more wind tolerant than the large flowering, what more they are resistant to stem-wilt !
Viticellas tend to be single stemmed and spindly growing in the first year or two. Thereafter they will grow very strong (when planted right). In general, it takes a clematis 3 years to establish (year one= sleep year, year 2 = creep year, year 3 = leap year).
